Terms of use

Effective 6 October 2026. These terms are between you and Gautam Khosla, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ("we").

1. Using Holdout

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if your country requires it, to use Holdout. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you.

2. What Holdout is, and is not

Holdout is a commitment tool you use with friends. It closes apps you choose while a holdout runs. It is not a parental control, a security product or an unbreakable lock: on Android a determined person can get around any app blocker (for example by restarting in safe mode). Calls, texts, maps and the camera stay available. Do not rely on Holdout where being unable to use an app could put anyone at risk, and never use it to watch or control someone without their agreement.

3. Your squad and your names

You choose your display name and squad names, and you are responsible for them. Don't use names that harass, threaten, impersonate, are sexually explicit, hateful, or illegal. Report or block anyone in the app. We may remove names, squads or accounts that break these rules.

4. Holdout+

Holdout+ is an optional purchase through Google Play. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in Google Play; you keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds follow Google Play's policies. Prices and features may change; changes never apply to a period you already paid for.

5. Sparks and skins

Sparks and skins are part of the game. They have no cash value, can't be sold or transferred, and can be adjusted if they were earned through a bug or abuse.

6. Acceptable use

Don't attack, overload, reverse engineer to harm, or try to get around the security of the service, and don't use it to break the law. Security researchers acting in good faith are welcome to report issues to the contact below.

7. No warranty

Holdout is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it reliable, but we don't promise it will always be available, error free, or that it will change your habits.

8. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Holdout+ in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be limited.

9. Ending

You can stop using Holdout and delete your data at any time from Settings. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without taking away protections you have under the law of where you live.
